The Red Tent Fund
The Oak Park Temple board of directors is pleased to announce an important action in our congregation’s support of abortion access and reproductive rights. At the December meeting, the Board voted unanimously to sign on as a congregational partner to the Red Tent Fund, an organization that is doing vital work at the intersection of Jewish values and abortion access. The Red Tent Fund was founded in 2024 in response to increasing anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiment in the reproductive rights movement following October 7th, particularly within abortion funds nationwide.
The Red Tent Fund is a nonprofit abortion fund rooted in the Jewish values and teachings that affirm the
right to abortion. The organization raises money to support individuals seeking lawful abortions across
the United States. Funding is not restricted based on religion or income. It also provides a dedicated
space for abortion supporters and seekers - regardless of religious affiliation - who affirm and support
the right to abortion access. Within the first six months, the Red Tent Fund provided $75,000 in block
funding directly to clinics to pay for clients' abortion care. They are on track to provide $500,000 in
abortion funding in 2025.
Signing on as a congregational partner is a powerful way to show Jewish leadership on this critical
issue and stand in solidarity with our community's fight for abortion access. This support does not
involve a financial obligation. If individual members of the congregation wish to donate to the fund, they
may visit the Fund’s website at https://www.theredtentfund.org. Please feel free to contact Allison
Cowett at aacowett@yahoo.com for further information.
