Be part of history as you offer feedback on the first draft of a new translation of the Torah!
When it was first published in 1981, The Torah: A Modern Commentary was a gift to the Jewish community, the first English language modern Torah commentary ever published. The groundbreaking The Torah: A Women’s Commentary is already fifteen years old. It is time for a new generation of scholars to shed light on our Torah text and create the gift for the next generation using new scholarship and new approaches to Torah study. This endeavor also includes the first Reform Movement translation in addition to new commentary. This new translation and commentary are essential to the ongoing engagement of the Jewish community with its foundational text.
Oak Park Temple is a pilot congregation for the new translation. We will meet three times to read and give feedback on the new translations of Genesis 34, Exodus 3, and Leviticus 16. We'll study for an hour and then discuss the translation. Questions? Contact Rabbi Kirzane at rabbikirzane@oakparktemple.org.
